Apr. 11, 2009 — “These widespread abuses of printed type threaten to erode the very foundations upon which centuries of typographic history are built.” Some people have very strong opinions about specific font styles!
“We are summoning forth the proletariat around the globe to aid us in this revolution. We call on the common man to rise up in revolt against this evil of typographical ignorance. We believe in the gospel message ‘ban comic sans.’ It shall be salvation to all who are literate. By banding together to eradicate this font from the face of the earth we strive to ensure that future generations will be liberated from this epidemic and never suffer this scourge that is the plague of our time.”
Ironically (as regards good design), the website Ban Comic Sans has a “pointless landing page” — but just click on the words, to “enter” the site. (Otherwise very enjoyable.)
If the good professor’s clichés, about the clear crystal goblet and so forth, sound familiar, here’s why.
It really hasn’t launched yet, but this site looks promising: Down with Helvetica!

As a former Art Director I know all too well the overuse of some fonts. But this same thing was said about Helvetica during the late 80s and 90s.
It’s use will die down and a new font will be overused.
